Solaris 42 -1974
This classic “Old Timer” Solaris 42 is a spacious well built catamaran in it’s time competing against the likes of Prout Catamarans, The Twins range from Pat Patterson and the Catalacs.
They produced a number of these cats, which were well received by the buying public in the early days as they had more of a modern styling with nice lines.
A great live aboard as it is if you did nothing else to it and represents a lot of boat for your money.
This one has been modified over the years and has had several upgrades , but in all fairness could do with a few more and is a working project for someone who knows what they are doing.
It has been modified with an electric drive in one hull by its owner who was an Electro Mechanical Engineer, with marine Mercedes diesel in the other.
The catamaran came to its present location in Sant Carles De La Rapita mainland Spain from Greece under its own steam and is laying on the hard standing.
The hulls look fairly good and it is well loaded with equipment.
The hard standing is approximately 4500 Euro per year in its present location and you are allowed to work on the boat yourself in the yard.
It was originally Ketch rigged but only the main is serviceable. The mizzen boom has been removed to make room for solar panels and a stainless gantry and has sailed with the main alone for the last 20 years I have been told.
I would remove the Mizzen mast, as it is really redundant.
Topsides are a bit of a cosmetic mess and I would remove all windows and replace together with renovating hatches. Standing rigging will probably need replacing, but there is not much to it, so should not be that expensive.
My guess is that sails could really benefit with replacement, but would still get you from A to B for a while.
The cross beam is corroded and should be repaired or replaced.
In conclusion this is a project for someone, and well worth someone throwing some time and money into, at this price it is worth a look and is sold “as is where is”.
I like this catamaran myself and it is a genuine reason for the owner selling due to ill health.
I expect this catamaran to sell fairly quickly and is a great winter project to bring this cat up to its former glory.
