After a number of very successful years working as sales manager with the UK’s Fountaine Pajot dealer, Graham Stimson has a wide experience of catamarans. With over 9,000 sailing miles under his belt on deliveries, mostly on cats, Graham has a few interesting stories to tell.
Many of these miles sailing catamarans were in very heavy weather and at times under survival conditions in Biscay and the Gulf of Leon, experiencing what he calls "some hairy situations".
After selling his home in Farnham, Surrey , Graham and Jane lived some time on a 46ft catamaran in a muddy commercial yard on Hayling Island in the UK, running a small brokerage, from a portacabin. He purchased the catamaran for 15,000 spent 20,000 rebuilding 2/3rd’s of the boat over two years and sold it for 4,000, just to move on. “I should have known better” he says, “but I learnt about boat building and what not to buy”
Without doubt Graham is a "people person” and is a regular sight at many of the worlds international boat shows, Miami, Annapolis, Le Grande Motte, Le Grande Pavois in La Rochelle, London and Southampton, Graham makes friends of all nationalities wherever he goes and has a great bunch of friends, clients, old colleagues and even competitors, who have stayed in contact since the early days.
Many of the same catamarans have passed through his hands and have been sold, several times over now and many of the owners have remained close personal friends, one couple have even become God-Parents to Graham and Jane’s daughter.
Graham is very focussed and will always go the extra mile to help anyone. One thing in specific, he is not in this business for the money, ‘but it helps’ he say’s, It gives him a real buzz to see a happy owner sail away on new adventures in their new catamaran, new or previously owned.
He freely admits that he is no businessman, but surrounds himself group of close friends from various fields marine lawyers, insurers, marine surveyors and extremely successful businessman that he can rely on good sound business advise.
One thing everybody does point out is that Graham cares about his customers, which goes a long way these days and is on call 24/7, his phone is never switched off.
Graham is now based in Spain to enjoy the climate, but regularly travels to meet clients in their homes all over the world.
They beside every great man there is a great woman, Jane Pegler is that woman and together Jane and Graham make a great team.
With a sailing background in racing Hobie Cats on an international level and also a number of substantial deliveries herself over the years, on racing trimarans and large cruising catamarans, also in adverse conditions, she has quite a number of delivery miles in her own right.
Working for some years as P.A to the Sales Director of a global agrochemical company and at the same time, running her own yacht charter company, she is the mainstay of the business. Skilled in graphic design, social media marketing and web development. She is super efficient in all aspects of the admin side of the business, but also great with customer relations, all this and being a full time mother of their little girl, Amber.
Having to put up with Grahams obsessive attention to detail and unreasonable demands on her time, ‘this girl needs a medal’ say’s Graham himself.
Jane has the remarkable ability, and relies on nobody, if she does not know how to do something, she will teach herself how to do it better than anyone else.
