With many more commercial catamarans being seen throughout the world, such as fishing vessels, work boats and even being used in military applications, Power cats have started to catch on.
More and more people are realising the benefits of a catamaran hull such as speed, stability, fuel efficiency and much more. In fact a catamaran can handle sea conditions easily, that any conventional motor yacht would get into serious trouble in.
Until recent times the concept of the power cat was a great idea, but none of the attempts at building seemed to produce anything that looked in the least bit pretty or anything that would appeal to the motor yacht purchaser, like the lines of the Sunseeker or Cranchi.
That was until companies such as Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot started building the Trawler Catamaran range such as the Greenland, Maryland, Cumberland and finally the Queensland 60 that they started to appeal. Now Sunreef are producing sleek, sexy looking motor yachts built to look good and perform how they look, it surely will not be long before more heads will be turning towards these catamarans and the Flash Cat produced in Spain.
A catamaran hull will not have the same rolling motion associated with a conventional power boat, tending to be extremely stable a real benefit for those who do easily get seasick.
Also as there is practically no resistance unlike the conventional monohull where as soon as you throttle back the boat will immediately come to a standstill whereas with a cat to stop quickly you will need to put the engine into reverse (well worth remembering at any lock gates). This makes for real fuel saving the fact that you are not trying to push a great big log in front of you.
With a catamaran the hull is much more efficient and the engines do not need to be so big because of less resistance, which means much greater economy, greater range and speed.
The space on board is enormous with plenty of room below decks, in the saloon and on the fly bridge where good visibility is maintained at all times. Because of the lack of the deep V hull associated with a conventional power boat there is the advantage of a shallower draft with the added advantage of sitting on the keels and drying out. With the wide beam it is great for all of the “Boys Toy’s” such as Jet Ski, decent size tender etc, not to mention the Jacuzzi bath on the fly bridge. Contact us now!
